Electronic Cigarettes, Your Health and Your Wallet

Picture this: you’re hooked on a highly addictive substance that is readily available yet bad for your health, increasingly socially unacceptable and cripplingly expensive to boot. It will likely kill you one day but it will drive you bankrupt in the meanwhile. This isn’t heroin or any other drug that we are talking about but nicotine.

Electronic Cigarettes

Yes, the humble cigarette is amongst the most addictive drugs out there, second only to heroin according to some studies in the grip it has on habitual users.

And nicotine, addictive as it may be is not even the most harmful substance in tobacco, especially processed tobacco turned into a cigarette. Instead there are over 40 carcinoids as well as tar, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. And you are paying 5$ (or a whopping £7 if you live in the UK) a day for this addiction.

Prospects for smokers look grim. Studies have shown that quitting ‘cold-turkey’ fails in 95% of cases. The only cases where ceasing smoking overnight actually works were in the case of social smokers who used less than a pack a day, as in their case the addiction threshold was not reached.

Therapy proved a bit more effective (yet also more expensive) with the most successful method being Nicotine Replacement Therapy (nicotine gum or patches). The latter, however did not help with the psychological dependence, the so-called finger-to-mouth craving.

There is another method to overcome even the psychological side effects of smoking: using an e-cigarette. An electronic cigarette or e-cig is a gadget consisting of a battery and a cartridge of nicotine solution, usually shaped like a cigarette. The device works by vaporizing some of the solution when you ‘puff’ it, therefore giving you a nicotine hit in vapor form, with no smoke or harmful chemicals involved.

The device is easy to use, socially acceptable (in most places where smoking is forbidden, e-cigs are allowed) and surprisingly cheap. It also looks and works like a cigarette so you’ll ‘feel’ like you’re smoking even if you use low-nicotine or nicotine-free liquid. The best thing about it though is that it is incredibly cheap and will save you a lot of money, particularly if you were a heavy smoker.

The average e-liquid cartridge costs less than half than a pack of cigarettes and can last just as long. The battery device is rechargeable, will go for 2-5 days on a charge, depending on size and lasts for about three hundred cycles before having to be replaced. A pack a day smoker can save about a thousand dollars a year by using e-cigarettes instead of tobacco and all while improving his health or at least mitigating the harm done.

And modern e-cigarettes require no cleaning and maintenance just a change of cartridge. You can find out more at Electronic Cigarette Tree or other blogs dedicated to reviewing e-gigs and sorting the best from the rest.

The modern world is no longer smoker-friendly. But as many of the people living in the modern world still enjoy smoking there will always be a way around the growing smoking prohibition. E-cigarettes are an authentic and affordable way to get your nicotine fix and, eventually, not need it at all.
