No excuses! Learn to love your treadmill

The thing about running is, for most people, it’s hard. Whether it’s cardio fitness, muscle strength, finding the time, making sure the weather is just right (not too hot, too cold, too rainy), being able to get out of the house (when it’s not too dark, too dangerous or you have commitments at home), there are a plethora of excuses when it comes to a regular running routine.

Treadmills provide the perfect solution. Treadmills offer convenience and flexibility. Whether it’s late at night or storming outside, there’s no reason you can’t hit the treadmill. Home with the kids? No need to find a babysitter to head to the gym or run outside. Treadmills are the perfect activity if you’re lucky enough to have kids sleeping soundly and 20 minutes to yourself.

When it comes to cardio fitness, the ability to control pace on a treadmill has its perks. Some runners have a hard time maintaining a consistent pace, running faster or slower than they intended. It makes it hard to stick to a running plan or track your progress.

It also makes it easy to get to a street corner and think: “I can’t keep going!” and then stop running. If running’s not your thing, it’s great if you can position your treadmill in front of a television. Before you know it, you’ve set the pace, watched a sitcom, been distracted, and run for 30 minutes straight. Mission accomplished.

Some non-experienced runners may also feel self-conscious when it comes to running in public. When you see Lycra clad runners breathing effortlessly on a running track while barely breaking a sweat, it’s easy to feel disheartened. Firstly, anyone going for a run looks good.

Whether you’re skinny, fat, fit, slow, fast, in struggleville or running with ease, there’s a solidarity between runners. Whether you’re a professional marathon runner or doing a bit of a run/walk shuffle, anyone giving it a go should be applauded (and anyone who thinks they are being judged is probably only judging themselves!).

But all that aside, until you can pound the pavement, focus on yourself and feel good, treadmills are a great entry point where you can build up your confidence in the privacy of your own home.

Once you’ve realised there are no excuses left, looking for a treadmill for sale is the next logical step! Lifespan Fitness have a great range on offer. Set the pace, and go, go, go!
