Do you own a Sub Zero refrigerator? This company manufactures excellent refrigerators but a common problem encountered by customers across the globe is cooling problem. Of course you can call a Sub Zero refrigerator repair guy, but why not save the costs and time by trying to figure out the problem yourself and fixing it. Here’s some helpful advice.
Sub Zero refrigerator usually have two different compressors – one compressor is responsible for running the freezer and the other compressor is for the refrigerator. If you are experiencing cooling problems it might be because of the dirty/clogged condenser oil that needs to be changed, there is some problem with the condenser fan motor, there’s a problem with the thermostat which is located on the freezer evaporator or because of a leaking evaporator.
In most of the cases your problem would be rooted in any of these problems mentioned here. However, the most common problem is usually a leaking evaporator. Over a period of time, the faulty evaporator is going to break down and the freon gas that is responsible for the cooling mechanism would slowly leak out. But how would you know this is the case with you? Under such circumstances you would have to turn the control to colder and even colder settings to keep the refrigerator running properly.
Frost on the upper left-hand corner of the refrigerator is also an indication that Freon gas is leaking out and you have a leaking evaporator. When the gas is leaking out, it is going to create a frost ball inside the capillary tube and that again is going to create a visible frost on the backside of the refrigerator. The bad news is, under such circumstances you would not be able to repair the refrigerator yourself because you need to be certified to handle Freon and only a certified professional technician, called CFC technician would be able to help you out.
You would also experience cooling problems if your Sub Zero refrigerator has a faulty condenser motor fan. If you suspect such a problem, you need to take a look at the condenser fan and for that you need to first remove the condenser fan motor grill assembly. There are several screws that hold the assembly in place – you need to remove them and then you would be able to see to springs which when removed would allow you to remove the grill. Once you have done that he would be able to see the fan motor.
If your fan is not faulty it should be running when the compressor is running and if that is not happening your fan might need to be replaced. To verify the problem you might check the available voltage on the fan motor – it should be 110 V. If that is not the case, the fan motor might need to be replaced. This is not a very difficult task and if you have the right tools you should be able to finish off the job under an hour.
